I would suggest oiling the motor with a pinpoint oiler. There are a number of good oils. But for the universal joints and gears I highly recommend Lubriplate white lithium grease. It is compatible with plastics and clings well. It does not dry out with age, a good long term gear grease. I would also strongly suggest swapping out the bulbs for sunny yellow or warm white LEDs with 1k resistors. The second loco with Digitrax decoder, well, do it like the first one. Everything well soldered, heat shrink, kapton tape, LED headlights, and good lubrication. Should give some more years of life on the club layout. You can brush off dust under the horn, little details, with an artist's brush, or a new makeup brush. A fun project! less
