Followers of the KCM&O box car enigma in recent issues of PM, may be equally intrigued with this sixty year old, three dome tank car photographed, May 31, 1980, at the Lawndale Team Track on Houston Belt and Terminal trackage. Stumbling upon a tank car of this vintage, built in February of 1920, is somewhat akin to running across a living dinosaur in some remote locale. According to sources, PDAX 1050 was carrying a wood preservative to a lumber outfit near the team track. Quite possibly the tank car's movements are limited to traveling between a local Houston chemical industry and the lumber company. Evidence certainly tends to support such a local move. Obviously it would be most unusual, indeed, implausible that PDAX 1050 actually originated with a cargo in Denver, Colorado, home of Protex Industries. Protex was not listed in the October, 1978 Official Railway Equipment.
