HEN A l l e n t o w n was given, recently, its first Dpportunity to view a local model railroad exhibi tion, it turned out, 8,300 strong, to look over the hobby work of members of the Lehigh Model Railroad Society. The show consisted of models made by members and others, in many different gauges, and of rail road posters and pic t u r e s. Miniature cars and locomotives were arrayed inter estingly in front of backdrops and were classified. Behind the "engines and cars shown by non-members there was a I6-foot mural which depicted the various stages in the progress of transpor-

tation from the covered wagon era. The club built for the show an "0" gauge layout on which any of the "0" gauge equipment from the displays could be operated. Alexander Lutz contributed an "HO" line and a couple of gas electric cars which were kept in contant oper ation. There was an "00" gauge layout containing an old M o t h e r Hubbard type engine hauling a local freight, and an old trolley. The trolley was operated by means of an" over head wire and would c l i m b unbelievably steep hills, much to the interest of those who crowded in front of the display. The display be longed to Edmund Collins, Jr.
Numerous locomotives and cars were contributed fot the " club show by non..members. I background, above, is a mural painted by Walter Schmidt.
