The 1 x4 wood members of the "open grid" benchwork are cut to size, then assembl ed with wood screws. Drill a "pilot" hole first.

This "Yankee"-brand power screwdriver makes a ssembly easy. Handle is simply push ed toward joi nt; the screwdriver does all the twisting to seat screw firmly and qu ickly.

This examp le of "open grid" benchwork would fit any 4x8-foot track plan. 1 x3 supports have been screwed together with crossmembers spaced a mi nimum of two-feet apart.

Legs are added last. Attach each wi th at least two carriage bolts and nuts. If layout cannot be bolted to wa l l , each leg must be braced with a diagonal 1 x2 wood support.
