Kit/Product ReviewsATSF S I G N A L B R I D G E

A simplified, yet beautiful, Cantilever Signal Bridge in R.O. scale is currently available as kit No. CPG-24 from Custom Photo/Graphics, P.O. Box 26, Mentor, Ohio 44060. The kit consists of twelve pieces of photo-etched brass which assembles easily, as per the instructions supplied, using either solder or one of the new cyanoacry late adhesives (Le. Aron-Alpha, Duradix, etc.). Once completed, the modeler can decide the number and style of signals to mount on the structure. These are not provided with the kit. The signal can be planned for one to three track signaling in either one or two directions of traffic. Once the structure is assembled, it can be modified to Santa Fe prototype. In this case I needed a single target span ning a single curved track. After com pletion of the basic structure, add the fol lowing: 1) Front and rear reinforcing fac ing panels cut from .010 sheet styrene. Measure and cut each panel so that it fits flush with the outer extremity of the

long arm bracing back towards the main support post, a total length of approxi mately 8'0" scale. Glue both panels in place using one of the cyanoacrylate ad hesives. 2) From .020 sheet styrene, using a pair of dividers, scribe a scale 3' - 0" diameter circle (or circles if more than one signal is desired) for the signal tar get. To make the bulb housing and mount ing bracket behind the target, use either 3/16" O.D. brass tubing and scrap, or purchase a Walthers No. U692 one indi cation Dwarf Signal (which comes with a 12 volt amber bulb) discarding the base plate and mounting screw. In this way you need only to drill the bulb hole in the new styrene target so that it mounts over and around the Walthers target visor. Glue this assembly together. Locate your completed target/bulb assembly (or assemblies if more than one is needed) and glue in place on the top of the bridge crossarm. 3) Grounding one bulb lead to the brass bridge, will enable the passing of the other lead through the bridge cross arm gridwork and down through the main support post more readily , tacking it

here and there with glue. 4) Construct the handrails from No. 26 brass wire and solder carefully to the bridge. Add the split maintenance ladders (Kemtron No. 5 52X ROn3 ladder stock is a good size) and the signal number board (.020 sty rene) and the modification is complete. 5) Spray the entire structure a flat black and number the signal bridge with black numbers on a white background. It is now ready to be installed along your mainline.
