Several years ago we were thinking through all of the excellent publications that have existed for train lovers and modelers over the years that are no longer in print, and we had an idea... What if we saved all of this great information by purchasing the rights to out of print magazines and creating a place where modelers could enjoy them?
So we did.
But it was expensive to keep the site up and things started to break... So we decided to start an online model train store to help fund the upkeep of a site and keep the magazines online. After we made the investment to purchase this great archive of magazines it felt like our duty to allow those that wanted them, access to them.
Something similar happened recently when we heard that an icon within the model railroading world, Pelle Søeborg, was going to have to scrap what we consider to be one of the most beautiful layouts out there (and by out there we mean all the way in Denmark!) because of some changes in his life.
If you're not familiar with Pelle's layout please see his recently published book: Building a Sectional Layout. Although the ideal situation would be for this layout to remain with the man that built it, we want to ensure that modelers could continue to learn and be inspired by this work of art. The layout will be located in our retail store in Provo, Utah and be available for the public to enjoy.
If you have read the above book you know that this layout was built with the ability to move it in mind, so the process has gone much more smoothly than you would think. That doesn't mean that it hasn't been (or won't be) without it's complications.
We are scheduled to receive this layout via container in about 2 months.
Please sign up for our mailing at the bottom right corner of this page and click the social links to follow us as we will be sending out frequent updates on our progress!
We're thrilled with the opportunity to be stewards of this incredible layout.
I agree with you guy as to the quality of Pelle’s layout, his exceptional modelling skill. I have been trying to find Pelle’s email address so as to converse with him as I am a also a Union Pacific modeler and former employee of a Shortline RR that interchanged with the UP.
Comments will be approved before showing up.
