Trinity 6275 Boxcar Questions - ExactRail Blog

This is a blog post that was originally posted on ExactRail.com on May 9th 2018

On May 4, 2018 we released another 12 numbers of the 2004 ‘As-Delivered’ FBOX scheme, as well as 2 different shopped cars with the new TTX logo on our Trinity 6275 Boxcar.  Each time we release this car there are a number of questions that inevitably come up. My hope with this blog is to answer the more common ones.

Q:  Why don’t you release more numbers of the “Forward Thinking” TTX scheme?

A:  The Trinity built version of the FBOX boxcars were only delivered in the older 2004 scheme.  We have been able to locate two cars that have had the new logo applied after the cars had been shopped.  These are the two that we have produced (#504634 & #505213). I am sure that more repaints exist, however we have yet to locate them.

The “Forward Thinking” TTX scheme has been applied on later deliveries  from Greenbrier (Concarril) & National Steel Car versions of the FBOX.  These cars are very similar to the Trinity version however there are differences. The quickest way to see the differences is to look at the frame around the door.  On the Trinity cars, there are wide styles that extend below the threshold of the door. The Greenbrier (Concarril) cars have a U shaped frame with narrower styles than the Trinity cars.  They also have a side sill notch that is wider than the Trinity cars. The National Steel Car built FBOXs are the easiest to spot as they have wedge shaped styles.

Q: Why is the TTX logo on #504634 crooked?

A: Short answer, that's how the real car is.  Sure, its funky, but it isn't an ExactRail quality control issue (perhaps at TTX it was).

Q: Why won’t you rerun or run the SRY, CNA, DWC & NS schemes?

A: All are are incorrect for our car.  While some of these have been run in the past, it has been our intention to no longer, knowingly release paint schemes on our Evolution & Platinum series models that isn’t correct.  HOWEVER… we're working with TrainLife.com and will begin to offer “close enough” paint schemes soon. The first release will be the Depressed Center Flat Car which is on it's way to our warehouse at the time of writing this blog.  So, there is a good chance you may see the return of some of these schemes… Let us know which you would like to see?

Simply put, we would love to release more road numbers of the Trinity built FBOX boxcars with the “Forward Thinking” logo but we need photos.  So if you have photos of an FBOX in the 504400-504799 or 505200-505399 equipment series that has been shopped with the new logo, please share it with me:

The Trinity 6275 Boxcars in the FBOX schemes are currently available in HO & N scale.

Best regards,

Chris Brimley
